Military service John served in the US Army, 29 Sept 1893 - 07 Jan 1897. His unit was Company G, 13th Infantry. It is believed that he was on duty during the Oklahoma territory land rushes. It is believed (From a letter from his Aunt (Helena Hubertina Vaessen), that he lived in Elbersfeld Germany, where he worked as a laborer.
